号外 – Christian Signs

One time, in the Bible, Jesus said, “Ask Adamu from Mutantfrog, and you shall receive.” As you know, Jesus doesn’t lie; in my liveblog this past weekend I asked Mutantfrog for an explanation of the Christian signs in rural Japan, and Adamu delivered. Great post filled with lots of information about the origin of the signs. Surprising that so many people just let that organization put them up.

In other news, I have learned how to “trackback.”

Thanks for the link! It’s kind of a fascinating topic. I didnt mention this explicitly in the post, but you could say that the signs are a legacy of the US occupation since this Broman guy behind them first came to Japan in 1950 as a US soldier.

Thanks again for the quick article! Pretty impressive turn-around.

And really interesting topic. Once I figured out what they were, I felt really weird about it. Especially since they were mostly on people’s houses in the town I was in. Reminds me of this one Mormon I had a class with in college. He said that when he was in China on a mission, people would be like, “Yeah, go ahead and give us the Jesus statue, we’ll put it up next to all our other ones just so we have our bases covered.”
