変える=前の性質や状態などを違うものにする
返る=もとの所・状態に戻る
代える=別のものに代わりをさせる
帰る=go home
還る=go around and go back home
then there’s the potential forms
買える=can buy
飼える=can have as pet
and everybody’s favourite
孵る=to hatch
The way I always use to remember this one, 替える, is to observe the repetition of the husband like radicals at the top. It is almost as if the implication is that one is replaced for the other.
